The following flies are listed in Francis Francis's book " A Book On Angling" from 1867.
 
 
 
The NORE. The Patterns for the Nore are from Mr. Staples.
 
 
 
No. 1:
 
 
Tag : Silver tinsel and olive pig's wool.
Tail : Bustard, red parrot and a topping.
Body : Very dark purple-blue pig's wool (rather rough).
Ribs : Silver tinsel.
Throat : Blue Jay, moderate and not too much of it.
Wings : A bunch of green peacock herl with brown mallard over, interspersed with liitle grey mallard
stained light yellow or buff, and a topping.
Head : Olive-yellow pig's wool.
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
No. 2:
 
 
Tag : Gold tinsel and medium blue pig's wool.
Tail : Blue Macaw.
Body : Olive-yellow pig's wool, rough and picked out at the breast.
Ribs : Gold tinsel.
Thraot : Golden olive (or rather orange) with a vivid black centre.
Wings : A bunch of copper coloured peacock herl, and a good slip or two of blue Macaw over it.
* " This is a stricking looking fly, owing to the hackle chiefly ".
 


 
 
No. 3:
 
 
Tag : Gold tinsel and lightish blue pig's wool.
Tail : Indian Jay, and fibres of a buff hackle.
Body : Dark red (tending to claret) pig's wool, rough and picked out.
Ribs : Gold tinsel.
Throat : Lightish blue.
Wings : A bunch of copper coloured peacock herl, a good slip of blue Macaw and a slip of red parrot or macaw
over it.
 
No. 4: Is a small Galway pattern
 
 
Tag : Gold twist and orange floss.
Tail : A topping.
Butt :
Body : Lake floss.
Ribs : Fine silver tinsel.
Hackle : Gallina, trimmed on the breast.
Throat : A turn or two of blue Jay.
Wings : Mixed; Golden pheasant tail, gallina, tippet, bustard, mallard, green sprigs.
Cheeks : Kingfisher.
Horns : Blue macaw.
Head : Black.
